Spring Cleansing Marathon – Step 1: Cleansing at the Body Level
Spring is here and it is a good time to do some cleansing. What comes to your mind when I say cleansing or detoxing? Definitely buying detox kits from the health food stores, and for sure you are thinking only body detox. In order to achieve excellence in our lives, we need to work on different aspects of our being and hence the idea of the Spring Excellence Marathon. By the end of the five weeks, you will have more energy, can focus more, sleep better, think positively, and got rid of negative energy in your life.
This Spring we will be doing 5 weeks of cleansing in 5 easy steps, one step per week. This week we will be doing cleansing at the body level. If you are constantly tired, have headaches or achy joints, then maybe you are experiencing toxins overload which means it is a good time to do some body detoxing. You do not need to go out and buy any kits or anything else. In three simple steps, you will be able to detox the body and as a bonus, you may lose a few extra pounds. Drink More clean water. In order to move toxins from the body, you are encouraged to drink plenty of water so you can flush them out of your system. Tap water has a lot of chemicals and other kinds of toxins, so if possible, try to drink filtered or spring water. The amount of water to drink is half of your body weight in ounces (1 cup=8 ounce). For example, if you weigh 150 lbs then you have to drink 150/2=75 ounces which means around 9.5 cups a day.
Break up with the whites. White flour and its products are not nutritious and are deficient in vitamins and minerals despite fortification. These foods are usually comfort foods that we run to every time we are not feeling well, which means you will have an emotional attachment to these foods but try your best to cut them out of your diet for this week. Hence, for this week and if you can for the following four weeks eliminate white bread, white flour, white rice, sugar, and salt
Eat more green leafy vegetables. In Chinese Medicine, Spring is associated with the color green. By eating more green fresh leafy vegetables you will be not only getting more fiber, vitamins, and minerals, but you are also living in tune with the Spring energy and absorbing the live energy in these foods. Moreover, green vegetables are great natural detoxifiers. Always follow your health care practitioner directions if you have some restrictions on your diet.
2 Bonus tips:
- Add more fiber to your diet to keep the colon moving and getting rid of toxins. If you followed the recommendations above, then you would have already increased your fiber intake but you can increase it more by adding flax seeds, psyllium husks, legumes, whole grains, and oats.
- Drink a cleansing tea or do your own by adding fresh ginger, honey, lemon, and other herbs.
